All in a Day's Work

We've been talking about extending our patio for years so finally, 2009 was THE year. My cousin, Matt, our general contractor (aka the only person that had done this before), Jeff, my dad and Dylan were our laborers early last Saturday morning. The day started interestingly enough with me assuring my father (via phone from bed), who was at Menard's in Marion, that the half of the paver bricks we already had here at the house were "definitely gray." Turns out, they were actually DEFINITELY tan...so we had two different color bricks. Then, we had a small rain delay and finally, the tamper broke as soon as they started using it. By the end of the day, they were nearly done...but 18 bricks short. What seemed like a comedy of errors turned into quite a lovely, two tone checkerboard patio...and the boys wanting to hire themselves out to others in the neighborhood. Good work, guys!

Rain delay...not looking good

Finished product - didn't they do a great job?

While the boys worked outside, my mom and I fiddled around doing odds and ends in the house, including hanging some things in Keagan's nursery and putting together his jumper. Some pics of the finished product.

Hung his initials and the quote

Doesn't this thing kind of make you wish you fit in here? It looks so fun!
