Happy Birthday to David!

Keagan was invited to his very first friend birthday party this summer. My long-time friend, Kara's, little David was having a party at World of Bounce down here in Grove City. We'd never been there before and weren't sure what to expect but it was a BLAST! The place has giant, adult-sized bounce houses to play in (including adults!) and a big bouncy slide that Keagan adored. Jeff and I actually admit that it was a pretty sweet slide. :) Keagan got to play with all of his friends which are the kids of many of my high school (and HT) friends so it's really fun to watch, even if it makes us feel a little old!

Doing some stretching?

Whee!! Notice Keagan's hair flying in the wind.

2010 Annual Teynor Reunion

Our reunions haven't exactly been "annual" lately (unless "annual" means every 25 years or so) but the extended family took the initiative and planned a reunion for the family in New Washington this summer (and to celebrate my birthday...coincidence?). What a great location! We had a nice shelter, plenty of area for the kids to run and a fairly nice day - or at least the kids enjoyed playing in the bit of rain we got. And, of course, we had lots of good food! It was fun to see some of the extended family and their kids, many of which we hadn't seen before or at least in years. Given such short notice, many family members couldn't make it but we're already talking having another next year. I vote "yes!"

This is how the big boys roll. Mostly I love the "1983 Annual Teynor Reunion" t-shirt making it's first appearance since our wedding!

And here's Uncle Joe keeping the kids entertained with fun activities like "Run around that tree 10 times"

Fun in the Sun

We were looking for something different and fun to do during the day to get us out of the house and we found this water park in Powell (thanks to Holly!) that is SO cool. It's got all kinds of water everywhere, a playground and best of all, it's clean and free! Jeff and I took Keagan there one Saturday and were a little disappointed that he wasn't very into the water. He did love the playground though so it wasn't a wasted trip. We were so excited about it, we took the rest of the fam the next day. Dylan seemed to love it more than Keags so it was worth it. We're hoping he'll warm up to it a bit next year when he has another year of experience under his hat.

A New Tradition?

We were looking for something different to do 4th of July weekend, and Aimee and Mom suggested Alum Creek. Now I'll admit, I'm not a big fan of lake water. I like to know what it is floating around my legs under water. But we did have a really good time. We grilled out and did a little picnic lunch before hitting the water. The boys had so much fun swimming around! We weren't sure how Keags would do but he loved the water and loved getting dirty and playing in the sand, as you can see from the pictures. He was exhausted by the time we left. The adults had a good time people-watching, and let me tell you, there was some good people to watch. Apparently, we missed the memo that it was totally cool to just swim in your clothes!

...and get dirty he did!

Notice the dirt - this wasn't from playing in the sand. It was from simply swimming in the water. Eek!

Relay for Life 2010

Relay was a little different this year - shorter and our team was elected to run the concession stand. As we tend to do, DBC made it a good time anyway and even raised some cash for the Relay. As there were supposedly big storms rolling in, we headed home to shelter and bed late Friday night and returned for breakfast the next morning. Not sure how I like the shorter version of Relay but it's the cause and memories that make it what it is, I guess. And, yes, we're already off and running for Relay 2011!

This was Dylan's first year of t-ball and Keags and I were lucky enough to make it up for a game. The games are entertaining, to say the least. As you can see from the pictures, Dylan was "injured" in this game (we're not quite sure how - one second he was in the field, the next he was laying on the ground), had to be carried off the field and then had to relax with an ice pack on the bleachers between innings. We're pretty sure he just wanted to spend some time with Keagan. Luckily, he recovered nearly entirely in time to bat, though it did require a little dramatic limping up to the plate. Love our little All-Star!

Goodbye, High Six! Hello, High Five!

Or so that's what his well wishes from his teachers and friends said. As most of you probably know, Keagan was born with an extra thumb (technically, a Wassel II...or maybe III, can't remember). The doctors told us that they would wait to remove it until after his first birthday because they wanted to see how it grew, if one dominated more than the other, etc. At his check up with the surgeon at Children's just after his first birthday, Dr. Popp decided they'd take off the outside thumb and we got the procedure scheduled. They told us his surgery would be at 8 a.m. so it was an early morning for the Beards but thankfully so since Keagan couldn't eat or drink beforehand. At least we didn't have to worry about him starving all morning! We got him all checked in and got his hospital "gown" on (i.e. some cute little scrub-like pants and shirt that tied in the back). The little guy was none too excited to see all of the nurses and other strangers but he did ok. His surgery took almost an hour exactly. Dr. Popp came out to see us afterward and said he did great. Turns out that his joint in his thumb was actually not in as good of shape as Dr. Popp had hoped and he thinks he more than likely won't be able to bend his thumb at his knuckle. Jeff and I don't think he actually could do this before his surgery either so we're thinking Keagan shouldn't notice any difference. Like I told Jeff, perhaps he won't be able to palm a basketball and dunk with his right hand but all in all, we're thankful things went so well. After we talked with Dr. Popp, Keagan was awake within 15 minutes or so and we got to go back, get our discharge instructions and we were on our way home. Keagan seemed a bit frustrated with the cast that first day - trying to do things and looking at my and whining a bit when he couldn't - but was back to his old self in no time. We're so proud of our brave little guy (and can't wait to get this cast off)!

Awake and all done! The nurse said he didn't even cry when he woke up - such a brave baby boy!

It's a smile...it's a kiss...it's a sip of wine...IT'S SUMMERTIME!

OK, Keagan can't have the sip of wine yet but he's enjoying some fun in the sun toddler-style. Pre-surgery, we were soaking up the sun and enjoying the beautiful weather here in Cbus. We spent one perfect weekend day at the zoo checking out the new polar bears, spoiled ourselves with ice cream for lunch (I blame Keagan sweet talking his dad) and broke out Keagan's little pool he got from the Hargises for his birthday. The little guy's surgery has limited his water fun but he still loves just getting out and strutting around...up and down the sidewalks, up and down the driveway, over to the neighbor's driveway, looking for doggies, watching Daddy plant flowers...the fun never ends when you're 1, I guess!
